Day 2 January 5, 2024
After working on piece that was meant for 2023 inktober, I reuse the inks leftover to create an organic shape where I try to outline what I see in the drawing. It is similar to looking at the sky and see shapes made by clouds. I decided to draw only one side of it which allows me to meditate for about 15-20 minutes. It is also to keep track of the before and after effects.
Once again, I wake up in the morning and open my sketchbook with fresh eyes. Through this image, I see a girl wearing earmuffs and cat ear hat. I am really happy of how the colour and the composition work together. I also like how my lines did not make it look stiff at all.
Inks I used Ferris Wheel Press:
Song of Scarlet
Grand Central Park
Lights on Broadway
Brown Ink (is the mixture of all three together)
When I was thinking about how to draw the face, I started with the eye where it will set the mood of the drawing. I wanted to have a sharp eyes, so I think making the choice of using lines instead of filling in the pupil was the right call so there is no solid blob of colour. Continuing with the repeating lines, I added the pattern to the earmuff and hair. To have some contrast of the earmuff band and the hat, I added straight lines. I also thicken the certain lines to stand out and to show some depths. Overall, I am very happy with the result. It had the organic feel I like.
