Art Meditation

Day 1 January 4, 2024

I woke up early in the morning and was so groggy, but since I have the inks all laid out…..No excuse. With the palette set out, I am now able to use up all the inks without wasting it. Since it is January, I decided to draw some flowers specifically snowdrops and carnation.

Flower meaning
Snowdrops: new beginnings, hope, rebirth, and the abilities to overcome challenges, purity, innocence. spiritually
Carnations: fascination, distinction, love (different colours even have its own meaning)

The inks that I used are Ferris Wheel Press, a Canadian own business that create ink and stationery.
Ink name:

  • Song of Scarlet

  • Lights on Broadway

  • Grand Central Skies

Instead of doing the rough outlines first, I simply freehand it with new brushes (that I bought ages ago). I used three different sizes of the rigger brush. This type of brush have a long bristle that holds a lot of fluid which allows me to draw undisturbed. I really like the small brush size which I used on the red snowdrops. It was easier to control and flow better. While the medium and large brush sizes were a little difficult to use, the larger the bristle are the more fluid it holds. It was really hard to control the flow of the ink since it just spills a lot, which is shown on the fushia/magenta snowdrops and carnations. I also learned that trying to draw a simple circle with the rigger brush because the bristle will flick creating an unclean edge. However, I was not sweating over it because it was my meditation. This allows me to let go of the little mishaps. After 20 minutes of art meditation, this is the end of Day 1.
